The Judokan was founded by Mike Job and Lorraine Bailey (both 7th dan Black Belts and former South African Champions). We are one of Cape Town’s largest and most established judo clubs. Many of our members are former and current SA Champions. We provide martial arts classes for children, teens and adults. All skill and ability levels, from beginner through to black belt are welcome! We are conveniently located close to the Cape Town CBD and the Southern Suburbs, at Anzio Road Observatory.
Judo is a Japanese martial art, olympic sport, and respected form of self defence. It's a physically demanding martial art that allows you to develop strength, fitness and confidence. Techniques include throws, joint locks, strangles, and hold downs. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu also has it's roots in judo. For more info watch the video above or read more here.
The Judokan’s experienced coaching team consists of IJF and JSA accredited coaches, senior grading masters, and seasoned competitors. We provide coaching from beginner through to black belt level. We have a high instructor to student ratio and a regular grading schedule. This ensures rapid progression through the ranks.
