The Judokan is one of Cape Town’s most established and best equipped judo clubs. All skill and ability levels are welcome! We offer classes from novice through to black belt. We also have a strong focus on competition. We are conveniently located on Anzio Road, Observatory. Our dojo features two full size mats, sprung floors, and numerous crash mats.

Judo is a Japanese martial art, olympic sport, and respected form of self defence. It is a physically demanding activity that allows you to develop strength, fitness and confidence. It is known as “The gentle way”. The principles of the sport are “mutual benefit” and “maximum efficiency, minimum effort”. Techniques include throws, armlocks, strangles, and hold downs. The Judokan’s experienced coaching team consists of IJF and JSA accredited coaches, senior dan grading masters, and seasoned competitors. We provide coaching from beginner through to black belt level. We have a high instructor to student ratio and a regular grading schedule. This ensures rapid progression through the ranks.
